Home page / Instructors / Mr. Robert Dieser My Tae Kwon Do journey started in March of 1993, after serving detention in high-school. That day I didn't have a ride home, so I ended up walking home on Oakland avenue; when I happened to see a martial arts logo painted on a window. That logo turned out to be the Midwest Academy logo, similar is what you see today, but minus the additional Korean characters. I had always liked the martial arts, mainly due to Bruce lee movies, so I wrote the phone number down on my hand and continued home. That night I called and spoke to, what would be my first Tae Kwon Do instructor, Mr. Tim Rysavy. After questioning him to the n'th degree, Mr. Rysavy suggested I come to the studio and try a free lesson. Over 10 years have passed since that day and I continue to be thankful for, what would seem to be, Mr. Rysavy's simple invitation to take a free class.
I have competed in several martial arts tournaments; placing in sparring, forms, breaking, and weapons. I have won grand champion all the way down to not placing at all. I would have to say sparring and brick breaking our my top things to do in Tae Kwon Do.
I have attended several seminars with some of the martial arts greats: John Longstreet, Bill "Superfoot" Wallace, Dr. Keith D. Yates. All of these men are champions and have set the "bar" intentionally high for the rest of us. It has always been my goal to push the envelope to the skill level demonstrated by these martial artists.
There are two other martial arts styles that I have trained in, Aikido and Judo. My Judo experience extended for two years under Mr. Phillip Pilacious, in Austin, MN. The main lesson I took from Judo is the fact that being on the ground makes a world of difference when it comes to sparring. I have had a few lessons with Aikido and would like to continue my training to the level of Sho-Dan (Black Belt)
My professional career stems from being an iSeries support specialist at IBM in Rochester, MN. I was a software engineer there for six years supporting Client Access connectivity and telnet emulation. I ended up taking the iSeries experience I acquired and became a software engineer for Lakeview Technology, now acquired my Vision Solutions, also located in Rochester, MN. I support high availability solutions between IBM iSeries systems.
I attribute the successes I have in life to my martial arts back ground. My Tae Kwon Do training has instilled in me the desire to strive for excellence and I carry that with me in every endeavour. I would highly encourage anyone to take, what would seem to be, a simple offer of a free lesson; you never know where it can lead.
Sincerely,
Mr. Robert H. Dieser. Certifications: Lower Rank
