Instructors: Mr. Matt Holten: Home
I have been studying Tae Kwon do since 1987, under Master
Schutjer and Master Glen Morgan from Lakeville, MN. I took a 9 year
haitus
from martial arts in the 1990's to dedicate more time to handling Police
K9's
for the Austin, MN Police Dept. In 2000 I was able to get back with
Midwest
Academy and Master Schutjer at our St. Ansgar IA school.
During my Martial Arts career I have studied Judo ( both in
Austin MN under Mr. Phil Palacios and in Alexandria MN under Mr. Grant
Haugen) and police defensive tactics. I have taught Judo, Tae Kwon Do
and women's self defense classes as well as competed in Judo and Tae
Kwon Do
tournaments. In addition I have always been interested in Mixed Martial
Arts
and currently train with other Mixed Martial Arts stylists on an
informal
basis. I have attended numerous seminars and classes over the years for
Judo,
TKD, edged weapon defense and Police defensive tactics.
My full-time job is that of Police Lieutenant with the
Austin, MN
Police Dept. I also spent 12 years handling Police K9's for the APD. I
have
been on the night shift since 1986 and love working nights. My wife
Sharon
works at the Apple Lane Day Care Center in Austin and we have 2
children, Mike
and Alexandra.
My hobbies are bass fishing, collecting christian rock
music, K9 training, and trying to keep up with my kids!
Martial Arts are a fun way to stay fit and focused. Martial
Arts
training teaches people self esteem, respect for others as well as the
value of
reaching personal goals through hard work and determination. Stop by
