I have been studying
Chang Hun Tae Kwon Do since 1984, under Master Glen
Morgan, 7th Dan, and still train with him to this day. Over the years, I
have
taught martial arts in both the states of Iowa and Minnesota. Our
school is in
St. Ansgar, Iowa, and we have classes throughout the year. Our primary
focus is
Tae Kwon Do and Self Defense, but also teach Weaponry and Grappling to
our
students. I also have trained in Sim Mu Do, and teach Defensive Tactic
classes
throughout the area for law enforcement agencies. We have separate
classes for
new beginner students, and classes for our advanced students.
During
my martial art career, I have competed in
tournaments, point fighting challenge matches, and kickboxing. In 2005,
I was
promoted to 6th Degree Black Belt by the World Wide Martial Arts
Federation. In
2002, I began studying Sim Mu Do with Master Fred Gommels, of Rochester,
Minnesota, and in 2003, was promoted to 4th Degree Black Belt by
Grandmaster Pan
Gong Song, of Shihung City, South Korea. I have attended seminars in
Sim Mu Do
with Grandmaster Song since 2003. I have also been fortunate to study
under
Master Y.K. Kim, with the World Martial Arts Federation, and train with
Dr.
Keith D.Yates in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Mr. Bill "Superfoot"
Wallace in
2005 at a seminar in Iowa.
Currently I belong to the World Martial Arts
Federation, the World Black Belt Bureau, the Worldwide Martial Arts
Federation,
and the Korea Sim Mu Do Association of which our school is an authorized
representative of the association. I assist with testings for Master
Morgan at
his school, American Academy of Tae Kwon Do in Lakeville, Minnesota, and
with
Mr. Lee Bird, of Osage, Iowa.
My professional life is being the Chief of
Police in St. Ansgar, Iowa. I also coach baseball and volleyball. My
wife Meg
is a teacher and coach, and we have 5 kids who are all involved in the
martial
arts and other sports. I am a certified instructor for the Iowa Law
Enforcement
Academy in the following areas: Defensive Tactics,O.C. (Pepper Spray),
ASP Baton, Flashlight, and
PR-24. I am also a D.A.R.E. Officer and Mentor for the State of
Iowa.
The martial arts have had a positive impact on
my life, and I look forward to getting more involved as time goes on. I
would
tell anyone who is interested in trying Tae Kwon Do, or any martial art,
to give
it a try and see what it can do for you. I have been able to meet a lot
of
people and do many things since getting involved, and encourage others
to also
see the benefits that martial arts can give you.
